Capital Region voters approve school budgets, boards and propositions

CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. — On Tuesday, May 18, school districts across the Capital Region held votes on budgets and school board elections. According to the New York State School Boards Association, New York voters approved 99.2% of school district budgets. We appreciate the many who turned out – in person or by absentee ballot – to approve local school budget proposals and elect school board members this year, NYSSBA Executive Director Robert Schneider stated. The high passage rate for proposed budgets is a welcome endorsement of spending plans that will strengthen our educational programs and restore some of the academic and student support services that were curtailed by the pandemic, Schneider continued.

(Will Waldron/Times Union)Will Waldron/Albany Times Union HOOSICK FALLS – Kindergarten students in Hoosick Falls Elementary School will use remote learning until Jan. 19 due to a positive COVID-19 case at the school, the district said. “Unlike prior situations we have had to work through, the impacted staff members all work in the same grade level and in the same hallway,” the Hoosick Falls Central School District said on its website Monday. “Due to the localized impact this particular case has had, we have decided to pivot only the Kindergarten classes to remote learning from Monday, January 11 through Friday, January 15,” the district announced.  In-person classes for kindergarten students will resume Jan. 19.

(Will Waldron/Times Union)Will Waldron/Albany Times Union HOOSICK FALLS – The Hoosick Falls school district will switch all students to complete virtual learning on Monday for an indefinite period of time as a result of the increasing occurrence of positive COVID-19 cases in the area, the district stated Friday. Until the number of positive cases significantly declines in the Hoosick Falls community, the school will continue remote learning. We cannot continue to expose children and staff members to the virus with new cases appearing daily in the community, the district said.
