Hyundai Previews Eco-Friendly Interior Of The Electric IONIQ 5

Hyundai has released two teaser images that preview the interior of the all-electric Ioniq 5 prior to its world premiere on February 23. The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s first battery electric vehicle based on its Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that features a flat battery, allowing the South Korean automaker to maximize interior space. One intriguing aspect of the 5’s interior that is previewed in these teasers is the innovative center console. Hyundai dubs the console the ‘Universal Island’ and notes that it can slide back and forth. In addition, the driver and front passengers seats are equipped with leg rests that allow passengers to relax while their vehicle is being recharged.

Hyundai has released a new video teaser of their upcoming IONIQ 5 that doesn’t show much of the electric model other than the front and rear lights, but it does tell us that the world premiere is set for mid-February. [Updated 1/26/2021] Previewed by the 45 concept, the production model will become the Hyundai Group’s first electric vehicle based on their new E-GMP architecture. As you can see, the IONIQ 5 will have a distinctive design which looks unlike anything else in Hyundai’s lineup. This wasn’t a fluke as the company suggested we can expect a “fundamental shift” in the design of EVs going forward.

Hyundai Austria appears to have made a whoopsie, revealing key details about the brand’s upcoming EV, the Ioniq 5, which we previously referred to as the production version of last year’s 45 Concept. The electric vehicle will, apparently, make 313 hp and Hyundai is targeting a WLTP range of 280 miles – or roughly the same as the Porsche Taycan. It will take a bit longer to get to 60 mph, though, completing the run in 5.2 seconds. Perhaps most impressively, on an 800-volt fast charger, the Ioniq 5 will be able to charge from 20% to 80% battery in just 15 minutes. It will also, apparently have a solar panel roof to help keep the batter topped up.
