Huron Perth public health reported a new COVID-related death on Monday, the 53rd in the region since the beginning of the pandemic.
The death was recorded over the weekend along with five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 – one in Huron County, three in North Perth, and one in Stratford. A health unit spokesperson said Monday the person who died was a community member not linked to any active outbreaks, but further details were not disclosed “due to privacy considerations.”

Local hospitals continue to deal with capacity challenges

President and CEO of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance, Andrew Williams, tells
MyStratfordNow.com there are currently eight patients at Stratford General Hospital with the virus.
He says four patients from the GTHA are currently in intensive care at SGH and another four, three of whom are from the GTHA, are in the medical unit.
Williams says the latest patient to be transferred from the Toronto area arrived Wednesday afternoon.
He says overall capacity is an ongoing challenge, with regular discussions with other local hospitals, long-term care homes and home care teams around patient movement.
