Megan Sales of Hendersonville Middle School is Nurse of the Year

From staff reports Megan Sales of Hendersonville Middle has been named the 2020-21 School Nurse of the Year for Henderson County Public Schools.  All school nurses were honored by the school district on National School Nurse Day Wednesday for the role they play in keeping students and staff safe. Sales was nominated by her peers for the care she provides every day for her students and school, the Henderson County Health Department said in a news release.  “To be given the title of School Nurse of the Year truly is an honor after this challenging year during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sales said in the release. “I believe we have an amazing team of school nurses who embody the definition of this title each time they step on their own school campus. I am proud to be a Henderson County school nurse.”

Henderson County News: Ninth Avenue School celebration is today

  Celebrating the Ninth Avenue School heritage in Henderson County, the socially distanced outdoor event will feature a walking tour of historical Ninth Avenue School markers by alumnus Ronnie Pepper plus a chance for alumni to share their voices with the current school community. For several years, HMS has invited local Tiger alumni to speak to students. In 2019, HMS teachers crafted a more purposeful look into their school’s history, celebrating on Feb. 15. The celebration takes place just a few days before the official “Ninth Avenue School Day” on Feb. 18, as proclaimed in 2006 by then-Mayor Greg Newman, and coincides with Black History Month lessons on tolerance, North Carolina history, civil rights, segregation and more.

Henderson County News: DKG nominates three educators for state awards

Nominated were Dr. Jan King, Marilyn Yoder and Anne Boyette. King, an assistant superintendent with the Henderson County Public Schools, has been nominated for the state DKG Founders Award reserved for women who have made outstanding contributions beyond the local and regional levels. In March King will have spent 28 years serving the students and staff of Henderson County public schools with a wide range of classroom experience and educational leadership. She began her education career with the school system in 1992 as a classroom teacher at Dana Elementary, Apple Valley Middle and West Henderson High schools. She then became a specialist for the Academically and Intellectually Gifted programs at West Henderson High, Hendersonville Middle, Bruce Drysdale Elementary and Edneyville Elementary schools, before serving as an instructional coach for all the county s high schools.
