increase font size Brunswick’s 9th Poem in Your Pocket day goes virtual amid pandemic In an effort to promote social distancing, the poetry readings will be broadcasted this year on Brunswick s local television channel. Courtesy of Kathy Koerber Brunswick will again celebrate Poem in Your Pocket day this year on April 29 after taking 2020 off due to the COVID-19 crisis. The tradition, which will look significantly different in light of the pandemic, started locally in 2012. While also a national event, this year will mark Brunswick’s ninth Poem in Your Pocket day. According to organizer and Brunswick local Kathy Koerber, the goal of the tradition has always been to build community through the voice of poetry.

The Schulte Poems: April 27, 1910 By JohnW53 on Apr 27, 2021, 6:02am CDT + During the 1910 season, the Chicago Tribune regularly published funny, sometimes hilarious, poems that it said were written by Frank Schulte, the Cubs colorful, hard-hitting, lefty-swinging right fielder. The poems actually were written by Ring Lardner, destined to become one of the great humorists of the early 20th Century, who was assigned by the paper to cover the Cubs that season. This entry, a parody of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow s well-known poem, The Song of Hiawatha, appeared 111 years ago today, after the Cubs and Pirates had been rained out for the third straight day:
