Who can get vaccinated with Covaxin? Centre debunks viral post claiming it has been approved for children above 12 years
While India grapples with a surge in COVID-19, a lot of fake news has been doing the rounds on social media about the two vaccines that are currently administered.
And, in a bid to curb such news, the government has stepped in and dismissed a viral tweet that claimed that Bharat Biotech s vaccine, Covaxin, has been approved for children above 12 years of age.
On Sunday, PIB s Fact Check tweeted saying: A tweet has claimed that Bharat Biotech s vaccine, Covaxin, has been approved for children above 12 years. This claim is #Fake. No such approval has been given by the Government of India.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned an amount of Rs 60 lakh from the CM Relief Fund in order to enable local bodies to feed stray animals during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Friday questioned the Central government why Covaxin, the vaccine against COVID-19 which was developed with the assistance of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Virology (NIV), has been manufactured only at a private institute. The court asked the Centre to explain the amount incurred by the government to procure COVID vaccines and what steps have been taken to revive the vaccine institutes. The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court was also hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking direction to manufacture Covaxin in the Chengalpet HLL unit.

The Rajasthan High Court on Friday sought the response of the Centre and the state government on a petition challenging the different prices of anti-coronavirus vaccines and alleging mismanagement of the COVID-19 situation.
The petition also stated that the different prices announced for procurement of vaccines for the central government, states and private hospitals violated the fundamental and constitutional rights of citizens.
Covishield, which is being manufactured by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India, is priced at Rs 150 a dose for the Centre, Rs 400 a dose for state governments and Rs 600 a dose for private hospitals.
