A GROUP of villagers are determined to stop their local pub being sold to developers and keep it as a much loved community asset. The historic Grade II listed Holly Bush Inn in Little Leigh is listed for auction on June 7, but an application has been submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council to put a six month hold to those plans. Still in its infancy, the campaign to save the pub from the pages of history has hit the ground running with many in the village offering their assistance to save what they see as a vital part of their past, present and future.
ONE of the oldest pubs in the county has announced it has called last orders for the final time. Grade II listed The Holly Bush Inn in Little Leigh, near Northwich, which dates back to the 16th century is to close its doors for good, making the sad announcement on social media. The countryside pub, which was formerly a working farm, has been a hit with both locals and visitors alike, with its 14 en-suite bedrooms also proving to be a popular draw. Privately owned since 1993, in recent years, the pub, which is on the A49, was refurbishment to restore its traditional thatched roof, provide a larger restaurant and to convert the on-site barns into 14 ensuite bedrooms.
