Swiss Open: Kidambi Srikanth beats compatriot Sameer Verma to enter second round

Srikanth defeated Verma 18-21, 21-18, 21-11 in the first round of the ongoing Swiss Open. Kidambi shifted gear after losing the first game and went on to win the next two games. On Tuesday, Indian mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa outclassed Indonesian pair of Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja in the first round. Srikanth secured an 18-21, 21-18, 21-11 win over Verma to progress to the next round of the tournament. In the first game, Sameer played really well and took a 5-1 lead over Srikanth. Sameer maintained his lead throughout the game, winning the set 21-18.

Saina Nehwal, HS Prannoy test positive for Covid-19, quarantined for 10 days in a Bangkok hospital | Badminton News

Saina Nehwal (TOI photo) HYDERABAD: Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy tested positive in the thirdCovid-19 test after they arrived in Bangkok.Saina had already withdrawn from the tournament, while her husbandParupalli Kashyap has been forced to withdraw. Kashyap was scheduled to playJason Anthony Ho-Shue of Canada later on Tuesday. Though he tested negative he was also taken to the hospital. As per the rules in Thailand, Saina and Prannoy will be put up in ahospital for 10 days. However, the rest of the Indian squad apart from these players has been allowed to compete in the tournament. This is the second time that Saina and Prannoy had tested positive. Last month along with Kashyap these players tested positive during Gurusaidutt s wedding.
