(WWBT) - A new team is hitting the streets in Hanover: K9 Yoshi and his deputy partner. Deputy Dante Hill and Yoshi have completed Basic Utility Canine School for the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. Yoshi is a 60-pound Dutch Shepard, and deputies say the 15-month-old pup is fast, handsome and loves to be rewarded with his kong toy. Hill has worked with the Hanover Sheriff’s Office since 2014, serving in the patrol division on the midnight shift.

(WWBT) - On Jan. 1, 2021, if you’re caught with a cell phone or other device in your hands while driving, you could face a hefty fine. “We all know distracted driving is dangerous,” said a member with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. “Last year it resulted in nearly 35,000 crashes.” That statistic is why local law enforcement pushed out a PSA Friday to alert the public about the new hands-free law going into effect on Jan. 1.

Wanted Wilmington man arrested on multiple charges

WILMINGTON A Wilmington man wanted for violating probation was arrested Thursday evening by the U. S. Marshal’s Carolinas Regional Task Force with the assistance of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. Tyzheem Nixon, 25, is charged with possession of firearm by felon, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and interference with electronic monitoring devices. According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, the incident took place Nov. 4 at the Scotchman located at 1610 N. U.S. Hwy. 421. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Det. (WECT) - A man wanted for a murder in Norwich, Connecticut this summer was arrested in Pender County Thursday morning. Phillip Cordell Wise, 39, was taken into custody in the 200 block of Perkins Road in Hampstead by members of the US Marshals Eastern North Carolina Violent Fugitive Task Force, jail records indicate. The Hartford Daily Voice reports that Wise was wanted by Norwich police on a murder charge for the July 21 shooting death of 39-year-old Anthony Williams on Lake Street. Police told the news outlet that the shooting “appeared to be targeted.”
