WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - WECT, along with representatives from Novant Health and New Hanover Regional Medical Center hosted a Facebook live forum on the COVID-19 vaccine. The discussion, which will include questions from viewers, is taking place Wednesday at 8 p.m. See below for live link.
The purpose of the forum is to have an open discussion about the COVID-19 vaccine and to address concerns about the safety of the injection.
Joshua Jones, a leading pharmacist at NHRMC will dispel myths that the vaccine contains the virus. Jones, who is African American, will also address the racial disparities as white people are vaccinated at a much higher rate than black people.

Novant Health Inc. completed Monday its $5.3 billion acquisition of New Hanover Regional Medical Center, establishing a third major operational hub in North Carolina.
The announcement comes 11 days after Josh Stein, the state s attorney general, said he would not object to the deal â the final anti-trust regulatory approval required.
Novant received final approval Oct. 5 by a 4-1 New Hanover Board of Commissioners vote to acquire the 59-year-old health-care system through an asset purchase. Throughout this process, Novant Health has been confident in the tremendous benefits this partnership would bring to the community, Carl Armato, Novant s chief executive and president, said in a statement.

WILMINGTON On July 23, 2019, citing increased financial uncertainty and the level of funding needed to expand facilities and services amid the area’s rapid growth, officials announced plans to explore selling New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Barring any last-minute hurdles, on Monday, Feb. 1, 2020 18 months later and in the midst of the area’s worst health crisis in a century the county-owned health system will officially become Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. It will operate as a part of Novant’s Winston-Salem-based private nonprofit health network.
