(WECT) - People with appointments for COVID-19 vaccines can now get their shots at a Wilmington movie theater. New Hanover Regional Medical Center has set up shop inside the theater at The Pointe at Barclay off S. 17th St. “Stone Theatre Group has so generously allowed us to use their site,” said Dr. Phil Brown, Chief Physician at NHRMC. “Their national CEO intends to come see the operation with plans to enlist all their nationwide facilities as sites for community vaccination campaigns.”

Wilmington detectives say December shooting death was accidental

WILMINGTON – Wilmington police say a shooting in December was accidental. Through the investigation, detectives revealed the victim of the shooting, Nasir Leonard, 20, was sitting in the passenger’s seat of a parked vehicle with two others when another car drove by and fired shots. In an attempt to return fire, a man in the backseat of the vehicle Leonard was in struck him. According to a Wilmington Police Department news release, “Since the shooter was acting in self-defense and did not intend to hit Leonard, the District Attorney’s Office has declined prosecution; however, charges are still possible in this case.”
