NHRMC opens new location for vaccine distribution inside movie theater at The Pointe

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - People with appointments for COVID-19 vaccines can now get their shots at a Wilmington movie theater. New Hanover Regional Medical Center has set up shop inside the theater at The Pointe at Barclay off S. 17th St.
“Stone Theatre Group has so generously allowed us to use their site,” said Dr. Phil Brown, Chief Physician at NHRMC. “Their national CEO intends to come see the operation with plans to enlist all their nationwide facilities as sites for community vaccination campaigns.”
WILMINGTON – Wilmington police say a shooting in December was accidental.
Through the investigation, detectives revealed the victim of the shooting, Nasir Leonard, 20, was sitting in the passenger’s seat of a parked vehicle with two others when another car drove by and fired shots.
In an attempt to return fire, a man in the backseat of the vehicle Leonard was in struck him.
According to a Wilmington Police Department news release, “Since the shooter was acting in self-defense and did not intend to hit Leonard, the District Attorney’s Office has declined prosecution; however, charges are still possible in this case.”

WILMINGTON â Down a residential street off U.S. 74, a 400-square-foot home sits vacant in the middle of a muddy and bare 4-acre lot.
Surrounded by nothing, two empty white rocking chairs move gently to and fro on the walk-up front porch as the wind passes. Through the front door, the home is fully furnished, with brand new appliances, made-up beds and enough dishes to cook a decent meal.

This single home wonât be lonely forever though. A group is now fundraising to turn the acreage into a gated, pedestrian community providing a total of 32 low-cost, forever homes to the homeless and disabled. An anonymous donor has agreed to pay for 16 of them â a $640,000 donation â if the group can secure matches for the other half.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein will not object to Novant Health’s $1.5 billion purchase of the publicly owned New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
After a three-month legally required review of the proposed asset purchase agreement and the addition of certain new negotiated conditions, Stein announced Thursday the parties have agreed to increase the transparency of the endowment bestowed with $1.25 billion in sale proceeds.
The endowment’s “representativeness” and independence of its board of directors has also been improved, according to Stein’s announcement.
