A year and a half after the sale process of the New Hanover Regional Medical Center began, the state Attorney General has approved a deal with Novant Health but, the approval does come with some new conditions. If those are met, the partnership between NHRMC and Novant will begin on February 1.

For months, critics and supporters alike have waited for North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein and his office to complete a review of the hospital sale. Stein now confirms he will not object to the deal, but his office has negotiated several key new conditions.

The shooting that killed Nasir Leonard in December has been ruled accidental by the Wilmington Police Department, according to a press release.
On Dec 2, Wilmington police arrived at 708 Varsity Drive around 10 p.m. following a report of shots fired in the area.
Leonard, 20, had been pronounced dead in the New Hanover Regional Medical Center emergency room by the time officers reached the scene.
Police initially declared him the 20th Wilmington homicide victim of 2020.
According to the release, someone in a separate vehicle shot at Leonard while he was sitting inside a parked car with two others.

Starting March 17, Group 4 will also be eligible for the vaccine, which is anyone ages 16 to 64 years old with one or more high-risk medical conditions, people living in close group settings and essential workers.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Wilmington police are investigating a stabbing early Wednesday morning.
According to a news release, officers responded to the 800 block of Colonial Drive around 1:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing victim who knocked on the callerâs door and asked them to dial 911.
The 28-year-old man was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment and is currently in stable condition, police officials stated. He is expected to make a full recovery.
