Two charged in Wilmington October murder case

The Wilmington Police Department has arrested two men in connection to the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man in October.  Hykeem Quintell Durant, 31, and Dashon Maroze Davis, 30, were arrested in Wilmington on Jan. 5 in connection the death of Charles Bernard Ross Jr. on Oct. 5, according to the Wilmington Police Department.  Both men have been charged with first degree murder and remain in jail without bond.  Around 6:25 a.m. on Oct. 5, police responded to the 4100 block of Princess Place Drive, where they found Ross suffering from life-threatening wounds. He was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he died during surgery.

Estranged husband stabs sleeping wife over 15 times, throws her from balcony: Police

A North Carolina man is behind bars after police say he tried to kill his estranged wife. According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Matthew Stallings is accused of breaking into a New Hanover County apartment on Wednesday, where his estranged wife was in bed sleeping. The victim woke up to Stallings assaulting her, WAY 3 reports. After stabbing the woman more than 15 times, Stallings allegedly threw her from a second-floor apartment balcony. She fell around 14 feet before hitting the ground. The victim miraculously survived. She was rushed to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, but she’s now in stable condition.

Carolyn Moreschi Nelson, 32, production assistant in the local film industry

WILMINGTON Carolyn Moreschi Nelson, 32, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She is survived by her parents, James and Moreschi Nelson; brother, Richard Nelson (Sarah); nephews, A.J. and Matthew Nelson; grandfather, James M. Nelson; and aunts, Michelle Henderson, Robin Bennett and Michelle T. Spaugh. Also surviving are her six fur babies that includes her special baby, “Blue.” She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Carolyn H. Nelson and Carlene Damron; and grandfather, Robert Thomas. Carolyn attended Cape Fear Community College, where she studied film and dental hygiene. She worked as a production assistant in the local film industry while working on numerous film productions.
