William Alexander ‘Billy’ McCormick WILMINGTON Mr. William Alexander “Billy” McCormick, 78, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 16, 1942, in Laurinburg, his family moved to Wilmington, where he grew up his entire childhood. After high school at New Hanover High, Billy was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Army. He was a track commander in mechanized mobile units in Fort Carson, Colorado, and served a year-long deployment in the Republic of Korea, patrolling in and around the demilitarized zone (DMZ). Returning from service overseas back to Wilmington, Billy worked for many of the local plants as a welder and boilermaker. In 1984, he acquired the ServiceMaster of Wilmington franchise, and, later that year, opened McCormick Auto Sales, running both businesses for five years before going into car sales full time. He operated his car lot in a couple of locations, all on Carolina Beach Roa

(WECT) - An officer with the Wilmington Police Department is being credited with helping save the life of a 10-year-old girl who was having a medical emergency. According to a news release, police responded to Spring Avenue on Monday, Jan. 4 after receiving a call about a juvenile in cardiac arrest. “Officer Mizrahi was nearby and began performing CPR on the 10-year-old girl 90 seconds after being dispatched,” the release stated.

North Carolina Man Stabs Estranged Wife Over 15 Times, Throws Her Off Balcony 01/08/21 AT 8:31 AM A man in North Carolina was charged with attempted murder after he stabbed his estranged wife several times before throwing her off the balcony. On Wednesday night, Mathew Stallings of New Hanover County broke into his estranged wife’s apartment at the New Providence Park Apartment Homes while she was asleep. Stallings then woke her up and stabbed her 15 times before throwing her off the second-floor balcony. The woman, identified as  Elaine Kinn, dropped approximately 14 feet before hitting the ground. Kinn suffered life-threatening injuries as five of the stab wounds were to her neck. She was rushed to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Kinn is currently reported to be in stable condition, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said, NBC-affiliated television station WECT reported.
