Detailed description is All original Hard Rock from Portland, OR, pushing positive vibes and heavy groove-oriented riffs.
Anatoray was formed in late May 2015 by Nick Rice (guitar), Josh Esker (bass), David “Doc” John (drums) and Michael Alexander (guitar).
This group was built from former members of Forbidden Symphony (Portland, OR), Diapason (Tacoma, WA) and Argosy (Oregon Coast).
Anatoray is a Hard Rock/Light Metal band based out of Portland, OR.
Anatoray focuses on heavy/melodic riffs and groove oriented positive messages.
The idea and motivation for Anatoray was from asking the question, “Remember when rock and metal were fun?”.
Before May 2015 Nick and Josh tried to form Anatoray, but through numerous line-up issues the project seemed unlikely to solidify.
After a year of the famous revolving door of musicians, Josh met Doc through a mutual friend.
After a weekend of drinking and talking music, Doc was on board to meet with Nick and give it a go.
Before the weekend was over, Doc told Josh, “Tell me when and where to jam and you’ll have your drummer.” A week later, Nick, Josh, and Doc were jamming and it was apparent that the chemistry was there to move forward..
In the same week, Josh and Nick met Michael Alexander at a concert during an intermission.
After pitching the band to Michael, he was instantly hooked and wanted to come audition.
Two weeks passed and Michael auditioned.
Anatoray had found the man to play the guitar solos.
Anatoray now had the rhythmic and melodic foundations to make the magic happen.
However, one key element was still missing and would remain missing for the next 4 months, the vocalist.

Anatoray auditioned several vocalists, but could not find the right sound for their personal blend of rock and metal.
Undiscouraged, Anatoray continued to write the music.
This came easy as most of the riffs were already mostly written by Nick and Nick already had the lyrics written to Nothing Left to Burn.
Doc quickly wrote the lyrics to songs that would become Warrior, Anatoray, Law of Attraction, and Provide & Destroy.

Then, in September, Anatoray received a reply from a classified placed on a popular social media site looking for musicians.
The singer, eager to sing in an original rock band as the frontwoman, was none other than Chris Medina.
With a soulful as well as piercing vocal set, Anatoray new she was the one who would complete the band..
Heavy rehearsals ensued as they geared up for their first gig together as a full band.
Solos were perfected, rhythms were tightened up, and Chris wrote the lyrics to the last song needing words, Propaganda Cyanide, adding her thought provoking and creatively edgy twist to the lyrical side of Anatoray.
Shortly after finishing up 6 full songs, Anatoray was approached to be the opening act for a national recording artist, Welcome to the Freakshow.
This band features Ronnie Borchert of Canadian band Miss Crazy and the one and only Jeff Labar, guitarist, from American 80’s glam rockers, Cinderella.

It was full steam ahead!.
In the next few months, Anatoray continued to play shows throughout the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA Metro area with locals, national acts like Tracii Guns and the Bulletboys, even an invitational dedicated to the Pacific Northwest metal scene, The NW Metalfest, they continued to write new songs, and make a common name for themselves in the hard rock/ heavy metal community.
It seemed all was well and nothing could stop the energetic juggernaut that was brewing.
Then, in late April of 2016, the first heavy blow came.

Out of nowhere, Josh Esker had decided to leave the band for personal reasons.
The rest of the band tried to reason with Josh to try and work through whatever the problem was.
With two shows lined up, Josh agreed to try and work through his issues and play the next two shows as not to leave the band high and dry with gigs lined up and no replacement for him.
Despite his efforts and Anatoray even suggesting a leave of absence, Josh made the decision to leave Anatoray for good.
May 13, 2016 was the last show with founding bass player, Josh Esker.

As the band pressed on and searched for a new bass player, they continued to write new songs and remain hopeful that all was not lost.
Finally getting bored of not playing gigs, Nick approached Anatoray and suggested he play bass and we look for a second guitarist, as guitarists were a little easier to come by.
All in agreement, the search was on for a new rhythm guitar player and Nick quickly began working on his new duties as bass player..
The search did not take long.
In June 2016, a friend of Nick’s, and guitarist in local metal band Madame Torment, Tim Crenshaw stepped up to the plate to give Anatoray a swing.
Tim’s personality and solid rhythm abilities matched Anatoray’s chemistry perfectly and the Anatoray train was back to full speed.
Heavy rehearsal sessions and writing sessions started again.
Anatoray’s sound was even evolving to a slightly darker, more aggressive sound with Nick on bass and Tim on the rhythms.
It wasn’t long before Anatoray was offered another gig, this time stretching the wings of the band.
The first out of town gig was in place in Renton, WA, and Anatoray embraced the opportunity to branch out to a new fan base.

When all seemed right in the world, in August 2016 another devastating blow came to the Anatoray clan.
After the Renton gig, Michael Alexander approached the band with bad news.
He felt that Anatoray was moving in a different direction than he wanted and he decided to leave Anatoray because of creative differences.
Anatoray now has another setback and decisions to make..
Tim quickly approached Anatoray and said he would take over Michael’s parts and play the guitar solos as well as fill in the rhythms.
Tim and Doc also talked and felt that Nick should return to rhythm guitar and Anatoray would hunt for a new bass player.
So, Nick, Doc, Chris and Tim were on the search for a bass player, but continued to market and promote Anatoray as if nothing was wrong..
October brought the good news for Nick, Doc, Chris, and Tim.
Doc found a guitarist who wanted to play bass through another classified in the Portland music social media.
Enter, Tomas Cardoza.
Tomas played guitar for and sang in California based bands Euphorium and Majave Moon, then War Within from Apple Valley.
Doc messaged Tomas back and forth and eventually sent some music to him via email so he could learn the material and come to audition ready to go.
After a couple of weeks Tomas scheduled up an audition and impressed everyone all with his knowledge of material and his playing style.
He even wanted to do vocal work and that also made everyone happy..
As these stories go, we encounter a new line up change in April/May 2017 as Tim decides to pursue other interests.
Undeterred, Anatoray quickly found another lead guitarist, gave an audition and in very little time, learned and wrote material.
Enter Lasher Black! With blazing solos and solid rhythm skills, there was no question we have found our new tribesman who will take us to the next level..
Now, through a few lineup changes, there is new music written and continuing to be written and Anatoray has never sounded so good.
The songs and the band have evolved together for the better.
Anatoray has a fresh sound, a new look, and restored energy and hope for the future.
We don’t know what the future holds for the Anatoray Clan, but we are fired up and ready to attack the scene fists high, horns up, and colors flying.
