BBL was chartered in 2003 and currently has 386 students.
These students are primarily from low-income, minority families, including 94% who are African-American, and over 75% who are economically disadvantaged (eligible for the federal Free/Reduced Price Lunch Program).
There is a large immigrant population in the community, and many of our students’ parents are natives of Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean.
There are also far fewer adults over 25 with high school diplomas in the community than the national average (71% locally vs.
