The American Culinary Federation, Inc.
(ACF), a professional, organization for chefs and cooks, was founded in 1929 in New York City by three chefs’ organizations: the Société Culinaire Philanthropique, the Vatel Club and the Chefs de Cuisine Association of America.
Since our inception, little has changed in our principal goals.
We are an organization based on promoting the professional image of American chefs worldwide through education of culinarians at all levels..

In 1976, ACF forever changed the culinary industry by elevating the position of the executive chef from domestic service status to the professional category in the U.S.
Department of Labor’s Dictionary of Official Titles.
Since this change, the culinary industry and our organization have grown tremendously.
Today, ACF is the largest professional chefs organization in North America.
We are made up of more than 20,000 members who belong to more than 200 chapters in four regions across the United States..

The American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF), ACF’s educational arm, is a nonprofit and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service with a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status.

The ACF is the oldest and largest chef organization in America.
Our local chapter has been around since 1961.
Originally we were members of the Los Angeles Chefs de Cuisine Chapter.
At the urging of their President in late 1959 we finally had enough members to create our own chapter.
By 1961 we became established as a Chefs de Cuisine Chapter and went on to host the National convention at the now Hilton Mission Bay Hotel in 1965 where a historic event took place.
WACCS and the ACF decided to work together as one in representing Chefs and being the authority of cooking worldwide.
We are focused on education and development of our members at all times and at all stages of their careers.
We know what is important, and we will be here for the next generation of chefs and the next! We also stand tall within the San Diego community for our charitable acts..

The ACF Chefs de Cuisine Association of San Diego Chapter, is a fraternal service organization and member of the national American Culinary Federation.
We have members from all aspects of the food service and hospitality industry.
Our membership profiles range from students to educators, from local vendors to the national brands, from novice chefs to seasoned professionals, from apprentice to mentors.
We cover the spectrum in culinary positions and techniques.
We take great pride in our place in the culinary world and our work in our community..
The Chefs de Cuisine Association of San Diego Chef Education Foundation.
Just as the National ACF has their Educational Foundation, the CDCA has their own as well.
This is a nonprofit and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service with a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status.

We endeavor in helping out with large San Diego events, charitable fundraising in order to procure donations by offering our culinary expertise so we can fund culinary certifications, competitions, scholarships and host educational seminars..

Our San Diego chapter is the first chapter to change the Chef of the year award from a competition based popularity vote to a performance evaluation to determine the achievements of members.
We firmly believe that there is more to the chef’s jacket and toque than just cooking or competing.
Many Chefs are not competitors by nature but overwhelmingly serve the chapter in creating a positive profile for the Chapter in San Diego.
Community service and charitable acts to help those less fortunate is a major consideration for being considered as a nominee for Chef of the Year as well as serving the Chapter and being a good example of Chef Professionalism.

Chefs de Cuisine Association of San Diego ACF member nominees come from a diverse field of highly regarded chefs, some from well-known local establishments, hotels and the educational community and others from smaller establishments.
Why is it open for just ACF Members one may ask? Because it is an ACF sponsored award in the first place and is not open for any flash in the pan to take that is not an ACF member.
One must be a chapter member for 5 years and must have served the Chapter whether on the Board or in a committee.
This establishes their service and commitment to the Chapter and opens the nomination process for the esteemed professional categories above.
Financial donations will not be considered as a means to acquiring this acclaimed award.
Nominations are open for San Diego Chef of the Year Award 10 months through the year.
We close nominations 2 months out to enable the preparation of ordering the awards, & Chef Jackets.

Student Chef of the Year follows different prerequisites then the Professional categories listed above.
This is determined on a student’s participation and volunteerism in our many community events in San Diego.
Our chapter values student participation as it grooms them for future leadership roles within the industry.
Serving the Chapter and being a good example of Chef Professionalism opens nominations in this category.
A student must be a member of the Chapter in order to be nominated and in the running for this respected award..
