LA CASA DE LOS URUGUAYOS EN TORONTO! El Club Uruguay Toronto nace por idea del Sr.
Boris Hristovsky, yugoeslavo emigrado a Uruguay donde se casó con su esposa uruguaya y tuvieron tres hijos; en 1964 emigran a Canada y es en su hogar donde se forma la primer sede, exactamente en el basement del 117 Landowsne Ave, Toronto.

La fecha oficial de fundación del Club Uruguay fue el 19 de Enero de 1970.

En el verano del ’70, nace el primer semanario en español: ‘El Popular’, diseñado por dos uruguayos activos del Club Uruguay, los Sres Gustavo Caceres y Guillermo Mestre, para brindar diferentes noticias a los latinos radicados en Toronto.

El mayor objetivo del Club fue - y sigue siguiendo - ofrecer la cultura uruguaya tanto a la comunidad uruguaya como a otras comunidades hispanoparlantes y de otros idiomas.

En los 40 años de su existencia, el Club ha tenido por sedes distintas localidades hasta que en 1987 compra su primera sede situada en Dufferin St, casi Rogers Ave.
En 1989, se decidió vender y adquirir la sede actual en el 101 Freshway Dr.
Unit 16, Concord.

Del Club han surgido muchas actividades y talentos, como también la oportunidad de acercar familias de distintas localidades, quienes crearon sus propias 'familias' en Canadá y que, al transcurrir de los años, se mantienen en contacto y comparten fechas importantes.
Las actividades del Club son varias y variadas, por ejemplo: el Carnaval comprendido por murga, humoristas, candombe con un grupo de mayores y otro de niño/as, sin dejar de lado la pasión del fútbol habiendo equipos de mayores y menores.

En semana Santa se organiza la tradicional criolla en la cual participan grupos de otras nacionalidades, en el Club tambien se realizan shows de tango y folklore y se alquila para fiestas privadas.

El Club organiza un ‘camping’ anual, donde muchas familias comparten amenamente asados, bailes con DJ y actividades para los niños, competencias de conga y truco (juegos de cartas).

Cabe señalar que toda persona que participa u organiza una actividad para el Club, hace el sacrificio de ofrecer innumerables horas y días de trabajo voluntario para que dicha actividad se desarrolle con la mayor perfección posible..
Cabe destacar que para participar en todas las actividades del Club Uruguay los participantes deben ser socios al dia de la Institucion.
