As a young adult living in the Ohio Valley, he landed a job in the local steel mill but would spend much of his time off tending to his gardens or cutting trees in the woods.
He also attended college as a non-traditional student and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University where he graduated with honors.
After thirty-five years as an employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Bob retired in 1998.
He then changed careers and went to work in county/city government and economic development until he and his wife, Doris, relocated to Huntsville in May 2007.
It was then that Bob decided to pursue his true passion of “digging in the dirt” and hung up his suit and tie in exchange for work boots and a shovel..
