Here are some of my views and qualifications..
I’m Darlene Torre, my husband Bill Torre and I have been residents’ homeowners and taxpayers of Billerica for 18 years.
We have a daughter Angela who attended the Vining Elementary School and Locke Middle School and has recently graduated from Bentley University.
A son Alex who served a tour in Iraq while in the Army and is now a Correctional officer in Atlanta.
Our 8 year old niece Gyanna who lives with my husband and myself has attended the Vining Elementary School for the last 4 years..
Currently I am the Vice-President of the Vining PTO and have also been a parent volunteer working with Head Start and The Locke Middle School.
I coached Pop Warner cheerleading and helped with Billerica Basketball as my husband coached the boys’ teams for many years.
I worked on float preparation for The Yankee Doddle Homecoming parade.
When time permits on Wednesday nights I play Bingo at the Billerica Elks and Ice hockey for the South Shore Women’s Hockey League.
I am a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer for Children.
I have attended PTO, Town, School Committee and Budget select Committee meetings.
Previously as a civilian employee at Hanscom Air Force Base I was the Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor.

As the Executive Vice-President of a multi-Million dollar logistics company that transports Military aviation parts.
I have dealt with both the corporate and union side of issues to find the most cost effective way to increase productivity and performance.
I feel that I could apply these same principles to better the educational future of all our children here in Billerica.
I want to concentrate on the quality of our school system and ensure that parents/caregivers and taxpayers have a voice in making educational and administrative decisions.
With my life and business experience I could help make a better future for our children and our community.

One of my goals is to help strengthen curriculum and student performance with standards that are beneficial to all children.
I want to assist in replacing common core with standards that would improve the current standards that teachers and students do not feel benefit the educational needs of our students nor do they properly keep them competitive with college entrance requirements.
Parents and caregivers find common core difficult to understand which makes it impossible for them to assist their children at home.
I have personally spent many stressful and challenging hours going over IEP and/or 504 services for our niece.
Billerica has great SPED services for our children.
I want to help make sure our students get these services.
I want to make sure our special education students are getting the quality assistance they need and parents are receiving accurate information to help them make the best choices to meet each child’s individual needs.
All children in Billerica public schools, charter schools, home schooled and homeless children all deserve the same quality education and services..
Billerica parents/caregivers and taxpayers have a right to expect accountability from the administration on all school matters both fiscal and educational.
This is all possible if we work on a unified goal to bridge the gap between Parents, Teachers and the school administration.
We can achieve a unified goal if everyone works together..
Because I am new to politics, I believe I can bring a fresh perspective, and independence to the school committee..
