Our Farm is a horticultural farm that produces vegetables and flowers in season.
We begin our operation in February and continue until mid November.
We are at the end of the Elliott Highway in the Interior of Alaska.
.
Our farm is unique because we use hot water(geothermal) to heat our greenhouses and soil.
We water with teid water.
The farm has just purchased a windmill to pump our hot water.
We will begin erection of the 70 ft.
structure the summer of 2011.
You can visit our web site to learn more and see pictures of our operation.
This farm is on the oldest known patented farm in the interior.
.
We have two greenhouses and plan to expand to 1/2 acre of greenhouse space.
Our outdoor crops include all of the cole crops, potatoes, carrots, beets, summer squash/winter squash , green beans, sweet corn etc.
.
Our farm is in the process of exploring green energy alternatives.
We have erected a meteorological tower to evaluate wind driven electrical generation.
Moreover, we plan to install a heat exchanger, and design a borehole heat exchanger that could operate a Organic Rankine Generator.

It's easy to drive to Manley Hot Springs.
There also is a new bus service that runs twice a week.
Email me for information.
If I could find a Long term WWoofer that would be great, however I recommend at least four weeks.
Our best weather is May- July.
However my favorite month is March because the days are long and bright and you can get around on snow machines to see the country.
Under the right weather conditions you can see the north face of Mt.
McKinley from our farm!! It's a million dollar view!! Small dry cabins will be made available to WWoofers.
Many people haul water from the community well house.
Anyhow assume you will have to pack water.
This is very common in Alaska.
.
WWOOFers would be needed between May-September or your college break.
We are using our log building skills to construct housing and plans are in place to build a summer kitchen this summer.
Our meals will be family style with home grown produce, wild berries, salmon, and other fish, possibly moose/bear (wild game), beef, pork and chicken.
.
The labor is difficult if you are not in shape.
You must be strong and willing to learn how to use draw knifes, chainsaws, cement mixers, along with all of the normal hand tools found on a farm.
In the greenhouse you must follow sanitary practices and not be bothered by pollen from flowers or sensitive to plants.
We speak english and travel to Fairbanks, Alaska approx.
once per week.
We are not looking for children or pets, however we wouldn't turn you away if you care for them correctly and school them at the local school in Manley Hot Springs.
The farm is a CSA and markets through a Farmers Market in Fairbanks, Alaska and a small grocery store in Fairbanks.
Local sales occur when people visit the farm.
Our goal of being organic is based on soil building utilizing crop residues, peat amendments, coir, etc.
We use no pesticides.
Steam is used if necessary to clean beds.
Hot water is ample.
If you like the outdoors and are a happy person who doesn't mind hard work this is an oasis in the center of Alaska.
Fishing and hunting are available.
Hiking is to good to be explained here.
Remember this is Alaska!! Hot baths at my Aunt's greenhouse are within a short walk.
