أنشئ معهد الدلتا للحاسبات عام 2000 كأول معهد في محافظة الدقهلية والمحافظات المحيطة في مجال الحاسب الآلي ونظم المعلومات الإدارية .
وقد تم التأكيد على هذه الطبيعة الخاصة للمعهد خاصة في مجال نظم المعلومات الإدارية نظراً لأهمية هذا التخصص وذلك في ضوء ثورة تكنولوجيا المعلومات والمشاركة في تحقيق رسالة وزارة الاتصالات والمعلومات في جعل المجتمع المصرى مستخدماً لتكنولوجيا المعلومات بغزارة والتأهيل للعمل في بيئة الحكومة الالكترونية ..

وقد تمت معادلة الدرجة التي يمنحها المعهد بدرجة بكالوريوس التجارة – إدارة الأعمال – شعبة نظم المعلومات الإدارية بتاريخ 16/3/2005 ثم تم تجديد معادلة المعهد بتاريخ 16/3/2008.
