Seed swaps, recycling challenges, free trees and more are happening as we celebrate Earth! And for 2017 the Trashy but Flashy Fashion Show is back! .
Mark Saturday, April 22 from 3:30pm-8pm on your calendars! Earth Day Fernie celebrations are back and with this amazing day comes an awesome line-up of environmental and conservation activities for all ages! Join us at the Fernie Community Centre as we share earth friendly ideas and create fun crafts and more to take home..

Kick off your day with the “Trash Bash Challenge”.
Find an outdoor area that you love and take initiative to clean up your neighbourhood.
Grab your friends and family and get outside to make a difference.
Take a photo and post it to the Earth Day Fernie Facebook page, www.facebook.com/earthdayfernie with hashtag #TrashBashChallenge.
With your post, include how many bags, how many people and how much time you spend cleaning up your neighbourhood.

Did you know that Wildsight Elk Valley has a Tool Library (by donation) that allows you to pick, process and even dehydrate the fruit from your apple trees? Or that the Tool Library also has dishes, recycling bins and other goodies that you can check out and use for your next event? As you know, the East Kootenay’s are home to many fruit trees.
When the fruit is left to fall off the trees and rot, it attracts local wildlife—including deer and bears.
Wildsight’s Apple Capture is here to help you keep up with your fruit harvest or to share it with someone who can.
Together, we can turn a wildlife attractant into healthy local food.

TRASHY BUT FLASHY FASHION SHOW.
The always anticipated Trashy but Flashy Fashion show only happens if Earth Day falls on a Saturday and luckily for us, this year it does! This is your chance to combine creativity with construction and show the enthusiastic judges and audiences your best fusion of trash and flash! Registration forms are available online and at various locations in Fernie but here is your notice to start thinking and collecting your materials.
Your stunning outfit must be upcycled from recyclable items or plain old garbage.
Of course whatever you use to get it to stay together is up to you and can be glue, thread, tea bag strings, used duct tape, the tuct tape holding the typar on my house, you name it….So challenge your neighbour, your fellow business people, your pastor, pet sitter and whomever you come across to the Trashy but Flashy challenge.
Bragging rights and cash prizes are ready to be bestowed!.
