I am Raychell Libby.
I lease about half an acre of land from my mother in Hollis Center, Maine and grow veggies for sale under the new name Fervor Farm!.

My mother, Edna Leigh, has had a small farm going for as long as I can remember called Red Pony Farm.
It started out with just horses and then merged into a small livestock meat selling operation.
Together with her husband, Jerry, they usually raised 2-3 pigs, 2-3 lambs and the occasional cow from youth to slaughter.
They have since stopped housing horses and stuck to just the meat animals, chickens and ducks..

I have been raised around horses since youth.
My mother and father were both raised around farms.
My mother's parents, Robert & Lucille, had a small homestead.
My father Daniel's father, Henry, owned and operated a large vegetable farm on Spurwink in Cape Elizabeth for many years.

I myself did not grow up around a traditional farm, just 2-3 horses.
After I moved to Portland and worked in various retail and sale jobs I found myself extremely upset being indoors all the time and started learning more and more about our food industry.
I was at odds with the life that surrounded me.
Depression, anxiety and rage were all too familiar.
On what turned out to be earth day in 2009 I quit my job renting cars, panicked for an hour and then applied to work at a local greenhouse.
Phil, the owner of Broadway Gardens called to ask a few questions and then let me know I was hired later that evening.
That moment changed my path in life.
I can still remember sitting in my room looking for jobs on a dinosaur of a computer when my gold blackberry rang.
I literally jumped for joy around the house and caught my glaring smile in the mirror which made me laugh.

As soon as I started working I was hooked.
Greenhouse and plant life was for me.
My depression quickly dwindled and I started going to school for Horticulture at SMCC.
At this time, in August of 2009, I already knew I wanted to farm eventually.

I have worked at Broadway Gardens ever since with a short hiatus to work at Green Spark Farm and then a natural food store until Broadway would take me back..

During this time I have spent a few years landscaping on the side and started a small garden at my mothers.
I convinced my mother to start breeding sheep and allow me to buy a pig from her to raise on her land and sell myself.

This upcoming season my vegetable "garden" is expanding to roughly 17,000 square feet.
This is extremely daunting and exciting.
I will try to manage this space while working at the garden center and utilizing friends who are willing to work for food.

I assume that I, along with my kickass partner, Jay, will obtain a small acreage of land and expand this farm but we feel no rush to jump into a mortgage, other than the pull from the desire to move out of Portland and back to a space with a yard.
Our awesome catahoula mix, Logan, deserves the land to roam free.

So as of now I own a ram, a ewe, a drake and a shit ton of vegetable seeds.
I am more than excited to see where this takes us..
