Detailed description is Friends of Dunbar School Parent Teacher Organization Glen Ellen’s Dunbar Elementary School is one of the oldest continuously operating public schools in California.
Established in 1857, the school prides itself on its rich history and a large number of traditions and ‘rites of passage’ for its students.
We still have the feeling of that original ‘one-room-schoolhouse’ although we now support >200 students.

Our campus is rural and gorgeous, complete with several acres of natural oak woodland habitat, an outdoor performance space (Haver Stage), a 25+ year old teaching garden, old and new art installations, play spaces/structures, a computer lab, an art room, a beautiful library, a simple track, and shade-bearing solar panels.
We are also home to a special needs program and an on-site Mentor Center..

Dunbar School is proud that our multi-age classrooms in a rural setting provide a supportive learning environment for the core academics of language and math while actively embracing the integration of art, garden, and science education..
