Why organic beans? .
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns that 30% of insecticides, 60% of herbicides, and 90% of fungicides are cancer-causing.

John's Java has opted for ONLY organic coffee.
We buy single origin beans from a variety of sellers world-wide.
All beans are from certified USDA organic farms.
This means that:.
1.) no synthetic pesticides or prohibited substances have been used on the ground for a minimum of the past 3 years..
2.) the plantations have sustainable crop rotation plans to prevent erosion and loss of nutrients in the soil..
3.) if any pest prevention is required, the farm must have a plan to deal with them naturally..
4.) that the coffee must pass an inspection and testing before being allowed into the U.S.
and sold as organic.

Why do you sell only water process decaf beans?.
The water process decaffeination methods are the only non-chemical method of 99% decaffeination currently used.
The specific process involves a lengthy procedure in which the highly water-soluble caffeine is literally washed clean from the beans while all the flavor of the beans is retained.
Currently, it is the only method of decaffeination that is deemed ‘organic.’.

Do you store your flavored beans?.
Never.
Coffee you buy from John’s Java has never sat in storage waiting to be bagged, flavored and shipped.
It is roasted fresh with each order, flavored, allowed to mellow for about a day and then sent on its way.

Why do you sell only whole beans?.
Since beans began to oxidize and lose freshness at an exponential rate once ground, it is our policy to protect the flavor and quality of our products by allowing the customer to grind the beans at each brewing.
Buy a grinder you deem affordable, but the best kind that I find is the conical burr grinder.
It allows for a more uniform grind, which ultimately effects the quality of the cup of coffee.

What do you mean by hand roasting?.
Hand roasting means that I have hands-on contact with each and every batch of beans during the roast process.
No large-batch, automated,m or electric roasters are used.
This allows for what I believe is a highly personal touch for each batch of beans.
Sight, sound, are smell are all involved in the roasting of each batch so that each is very individual-- much like how coffee was originally roasted! .

What payment and shipping method do you use?.
We use Paypal for payment for non-local customers.
For orders of 2 lbs.
or less we use a flat-rate USPS padded envelope with Delivery Confirmation for a fixed rate of $7.50.
This fee will be included in the PayPal invoice and the Delivery Confirmation number will be e-mailed to you once the item ships..
