Detailed description is My goats milk soap is made in my kitchen with milk from goats here on our own farm.
Here on our little farm in NW Kansas we raise a variety of animals....goats being our main ones! Our goats are used for both milk and meat.
Our daughter shows the goats at the County Fair.
My husband milks every night and I try to figure out ways to use the milk.
There is only so much cheese, ice cream, quiche, etc that one family can eat! I decided to make soap as a way to use up some of our excess milk.
I went with a simple recipe of lard and lye (much like what Grandma use to make), but there's not much lather in that.
I added coconut oil and, eventually, castor oil to increase the lathering quality of my soap.
I add fragrance and Voila! Soap! Well....after 4 weeks of setting out to cure anyway.
The soap will change color as it cures....some become very dark and others stay a rich, creamy color.
I add herbs to some of the soaps just for variety.
Since each batch is handmade, there will be some differences in color, fragrance, texture, etc.

I try to make a variety of shapes and sizes.
The full size bars are approximately 3.5 oz depending on the mold used.
The medium size bars are approximately 1.5 oz depending on the size of the mold.
And, the small bars are approximately 1/2 ounce, again...depending on the size of the mold used.
Because of the space constriction I have no way to weigh the bars as I pour the "batter" into the molds.
So not every mold gets the exact same amount of "batter" and results in bars that look alike, but are slightly different in weight.

Since the soap is made in the kitchen of our 100 year old house it has to be made in small batches that yield about 12 large bars of soap each.
Finding room in our house to cure and store the bars is fun too.
Because of limited space, I have to limit the number of different scents I can do.
I have 6 right now (pumpkin, eucalyptus/mint, rosemary/mint, lavender/chamomile, white tea/bergamot, and twilight woods).

I'm going to be trying out some new scents and new molds.
Be patient because it takes about 4 weeks for a bar to "cure" so that it will last longer.
