I am a 49 year old mom of 7, grandma to 6, and have just as many furbabies-4 horses and 4 dogs.

I am a full-time critical care paramedic with a rural, municipal service.
I work 2, 24 hour shifts per week which presents many challenges for my scheduling of other things.
When I’m not working for one ambulance service I volunteer for my local fire department/ambulance service.
There is no shortage of things to do.

Having taken care of everyone else first for so long I started to forget about taking care of me.
I started to lose who I was.
My weight just kept going up with each child and with each pound I felt more and more out of control, or helpless to do anything about it.
I thought I knew what I was supposed to be eating and that exercise was important but staying consistent long enough to see real change wasn’t happening.
I also struggled with a very unhealthy relationship with food, using it to provide comfort in times of stress and apparently there was a lot of stress.
Time management was a big issue along with an “all or nothing attitude.” I wanted everything to happen right now or it wasn’t working..
The turning point for me was when I suffered yet another back injury at work.
I found myself completely debilitated and could only stand for about 15 minutes.
I knew the poor condition of my body was due to many years of neglect and was a big part of the reason the injury’s impact was so severe.
I felt panicked.
I thought this was the end of my career, & ultimately my life.
My self-worth was non-existent.
I knew I had to change.
I searched for anyone that could help me or someone who had a similar situation.
Because let’s face it, exercise programs are not geared to help the morbidly obese, injured, old lady.
I found what I was looking for.
I took ownership of my life and life choices.
I made a commitment to move my body 30 minutes every day, stay hydrated, focused on good nutrition, changed my thought process through personal development books, & utilized an online support group.
I was no longer alone in my struggle and had hope that permanent change could happen.
I learned how to celebrate all the positive changes instead of focusing on all of the imperfections.
The positive thinking spread to all aspects of my life.
My focus wasn’t just on the weight loss but on all the health gains such as being able to stand as long as I needed to without pain, able to put my pants on normally, able to move in ways that I hadn’t in a very long time, & increased strength & stamina.
I felt empowered and believed that I could do anything.
I am still a work in progress but I am well on my way to being the best version of myself I can be..
