I was raised in the Chicagoland area and lived amongst an impoverished society where crime and violence hailed.
In my neighborhood we had very few outlets to keep ourselves out of trouble.
My father "Coach Q" was the infamous Little League Coach.
He coached basketball, baseball and football and was a positive role-model for hundreds of kids in our community.
He coached me in all 3 sports as well and many more before and after me.
I played sports as an alternative to joining the gang life.
I learned about teamwork, passion, family and the love of the game.
I learned how to compete and be the best person I could be on and off the court..

Our city had over a dozen gangs.
My older brother, Star was a Latin King.
Though he chose another path in life back then, he was always known as King Star "The Wise".
He always had his face in the books, something he passed down to me..

My mother Jane was known for "The Jungle".
She was a Master Gardner.
She transformed our yard into a Wildlife Habitat.
We would have squirrels scratching at our front door, just like our cat did to let us know when she wanted in.
The squirrels were asking us to feed them.
We would open the door and hand feed them nuts.
They would take them, run off and burry them and come back for more.
Awesome animals.
We also had every wild flower, shrub, tree, bush known to Illinois.
(Or at least it felt that way.) My mother also painted.
She passed down her artistic skills to me as where I developed my love for Photography and Poetry.
