The CAS currently employs more than 20 part-time student tutors and three full-time learning center professionals that are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment to assist learners of all abilities and backgrounds within the SCTCC community.

Services include: academic workshops, course specific review sessions, facilitated study sessions, course resources and software, test proctoring, tutoring (both in-person and online), and work space for individual learning.

IN-PERSON TUTORING.
Tutors help students discover ways to learn course material by clarifying textbook assignments, discussing ideas, and reviewing practice problems.
Tutors explain and model, but do not complete assignments.

Students seeking tutoring help come prepared with the assignment information form the instructor or course resources.
Students also bring the necessary books or notes and can show their attempts with the assignment.

In-person tutoring is completed one-on-one or in a small group setting of two to four students, so all participants can learn from each other.

ONLINE TUTORING.
Online tutoring is available to students seeking help with writing assignments.

Students may email their papers as an attachment to writingcenter@sctcc.edu to receive online feedback from a tutor.

CAS tutors provide specific feedback regarding skills development as well as whether or not the assignment meets the objectives shared by the student.
Tutors are not proofreaders.

Comments and suggestions are made using the Track Changes feature and the comment bubbles in MS Word.
Conversations between students and the tutor may continue through email after the initial session as needed.
