Detailed description is Molokai's Health Care Leader Molokai General Hospital was originally established in 1932 as Shingle Memorial Hospital at a location on homestead land in Ho`olehua.
It was operated by the Episcopal Church.

In 1963 the Hospital was moved to a new building at this location and renamed Molokai General Hospital..

Funding for that new building came from “Hill Burton” funds, the State of Hawaii & various community contributions..

In 1987, Queen’s embraced MGH by satisfying MGH’s considerable debt and turning over the land and $100,000 to the newly formed Molokai Health Foundation..
By the late 90’s the Hospital building no longer met current minimum code requirements and a complete renovation was required..
