Research suggests that infants possess a remarkable ability to learn and retain knowledge.
Shortly after birth, infants can distinguish their mother’s voice and by 3- to 4-days-old, he or she can recognise their mother’s face.
However, in stark contrast to this ability, adults will almost certainly be unable to recollect a single episode from their infancy, because during this period infants are considered to experience a form of memory loss known as infantile amnesia.
