Detailed description is Our main focus is exploring the relationship between social-cognitive processes and response to social stressors.
The Lab’s main focus is exploring the relationship between social-cognitive processes and response to social stressors.
One current project examines the impact of psychosocial stressors during pregnancy on the health of women and their children.
Specifically, this project investigates how women utilize their friendships to cope with common social challenges, and how discussions between friends may help to reduce or elevate stress hormones and influence health outcomes.
Another current project examines how competitive and cooperative activities influence the stress response.
A third project examines the coordination of the stress systems at different levels of social dominance hierarchies.
The overall goal of the studies is to better understand how the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and sympathetic nervous system coordinate in response to psychosocial stressors.
We are interested in determining how coordination between both components of the stress system impacts physical and psychological health.
