StoneGate Arts & Education Center occupies the former Indiana Limestone Co./Oakland City University site at 405 I St., Bedford..
Constructed in 1926, the facility earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places and the Indiana Register of Historic Sites and places in 1993.

Oakland City University purchased the building from Indiana Limestone in 1983, renaming it Bedford College Center and later, Oakland City University-Bedford.
OCU paid off and burned the mortgage in 1989.

On July 1, 2014 Oakland City University presented the building to the City of Bedford, which renamed the educational facility StoneGate Arts & Education Center.
The Lawrence County Economic Growth Council serves as the site’s managing partner for the City of Bedford.
