Detailed description is Sunshine Silo is a 21 acre homestead in Southwest Michigan that produces fresh fruits and vegetables, in an ecologically responsible way, for markets in the greater Kalamazoo area.
Sunshine Silo had been in family hands for over 90 years.
While for most of that time the land was being farmed in a conventional rotational cropping, recently farmers Larissa Touloupas and Joseph Battistella have turned over an old pasture to give a new more ecological direction to the farm.
The 2013 season has been our most abundant year yet and big plans are ahead for our future years to come.
We are currently focused on vegetable production with some perennial fruit crops, herbs and wild foraged mushrooms.
At Sunshine Silo we acknowledge our importance to be caretakers of the land, and commit to maintain healthy soil, clean water and use responsible practices.
We are not currently certified organic, but ensure our customers that no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides are used and absolutely no GMO's- The good ol' fashion way.
