Mari Linnman is the mother of two boys, ages 6 and 15 and has founded and run camps and schools on the East End and in Manhattan for twenty years now.
Mari is an educator with an entrepreneurial instinct.
She’s founded not only the Green School, but also the Art Farm, a year-round facility in Manhattan—with a summer camp in the Hamptons.
These are places where kids with both local and international backgrounds explore the creative arts and learn to enjoy plants, animals and regional geography..

History.
Mari was born in the Swedish town of Kopparberg, Mari spent much of her youth on a family dairy farm near Dalarna, home to renowned 19th century artist Carl Larsson, who painted storybook-style renderings of local country life.
She first came to the U.S.
in 1986 as a 19-year-old au pair for a family in California.
After ski-bumming in Aspen and waitressing in L.A., she and a girlfriend took what she describes as “a Thelma and Louise car trip to NYC—except that we didn’t kill anyone.” She enrolled at Marymount Manhattan College, but eventually heard the call of the countryside and rented a cottage at The Ark, a 100-acre farm in Bridgehampton, which she would eventually transform into the Art Farm.
The summer camp started up with 3 campers a box of crayon and some paper and grew to host over 400 families per day..
Mari opened the Green School in 2009 on a Sagaponack farm—where her own home was located—and had it designed in Larsson’s artistic tradition—red and white exteriors, and interior walls painted with storybook scenes.
Today, it’s a place where children surrounded by farm animals experience a sustainable farm while learning with a hands on apporach and it’s a place that gives back: A percentage of each student’s tuition sends a child in Thailand to school.

An integral part of The Art Farm's philosophy and principles is paying it forward.
Our charity, Mari's Children, was established in 2004 and has been funding children's educational opportunities around the globe and locally ever since.
In support of the idea that we thrive by giving back to others, we offer this opportunity to campers.
They're given the chance to give back to the community 5 times throughout the summer, activities will include:.
• Beach Clean Up.
• Food Pantry Stocking.
• Spending time with senior citizens.
• Horse Farm Clean Up .
• Tending at a local community garden.
Paying it Forward - Each student at The Green School pays it forward by sending a child to school for a year in Chiang Mai Thailand.
The gifting of a year's schooling is built into The Green School's yearly tuition.
Campers help too.
During camp we will have Farmer's Markets on a few Fridays for parents to purchase baked goods the children have made and goodies from our garden.
All funds raised from the Farmer's Markets go to Mari's Children.
We will also be offering other donation based programs to our community in order to raise funds..
