THE WRITER'S HOTEL IS A SPECIAL HYBRID WRITERS CONFERENCE.
The Writer’s Hotel “Mini MFA” is a hybrid writers conference.
We work with writers of fiction, poetry and nonfiction.
TWH Editors read and consult on each writer’s full length manuscript pre-conference, followed by a week-long conference in June, set at Midtown hotels.
On site events include workshops and agent meetings—and each writer reads their own original work in NYC.
.
.
TWH is the only writers conference with a pre-conference manuscript reading and consult built into the programming.
TWH Editors read each manuscript and give writers comments and edits before the NYC conference begins in June.
The virtual feature begins immediately upon acceptance.
Our greatest aim is to support our fellow writers, and we created TWH so that writers can get more from a writers conference than ever before.
Working with writers virtually pre-conference helps bring manuscripts into focus before the NYC conference in June, and writers tend to arrive at the conference feeling an artistic momentum, since they've been productive in their writing and have focused hard on craft.
From our virtual pre-reading process through to our on-site, week-long NYC writers conference, TWH takes writers and their writing to the next level.
Via TWH, writers bring their work from desk to marketplace at the heart of the publishing industry.
.
.
There are two general components to TWH: the pre-conference reading and the on-site conference in NYC.
TWH joins the virtual mentor/mentee feature of the Low-Res Creative Writing MFA with an on-site conference experience in Manhattan.
We perform a Team Reading of each attendee's full length manuscript and return the MS to the author with extensive comments, with a follow up phone call to address questions, consult about the work and discuss writing goals.
Then, attendees meet in NYC with their polished manuscript ready to pitch to agents and editors.
On site in NYC, writers and attend workshops, lectures and round tables, meet fellow writers, agents and editors, go on walking tours and attend literary events.
And writers have the extraordinary opportunity to read their own original work at landmark NYC venues: KGB Bar Lit, The Bowery and The Cornelia Street Café.
.
.
TWH NYC takes place at a floating hotel campus between four hotels in Midtown: The Bryant Park Hotel, Library Hotel, The Algonquin Hotel and The Casablanca Hotel.
Writers attend intense morning Major Workshops in their chosen genre.
In the afternoon, we offer Genre Labs, walking tours and lectures.
We also host an afternoon agent pitch session, where several NYC agents meet with writers one-on-one (for example, Foundry, Rob Weisbach Creative Management, Curtis, Brown, Folio Lit and many more).
We also hold a TWH Community Open Mic Night at Bryant Park Hotel to celebrate diversity of voice among the attending writers and to foster our TWH writers community.
The Open Mic also prepares writers for their readings in the city (at KGB, The Bowery and Cornelia Street) and they get to hear their classmates and peers read.
TWH attendees also have the opportunity to go on literary walking tours, hosted by NYPL docents and The Dorothy Parker Society, and they attend readings by faculty at Kinokuniya Bookstore and The Half King..
