Detailed description is WIU's Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning Asexual/Ally student run organization.
Meetings @ Thursdays 6:30-8 p.m.
in Sandburg Lounge! UNITY works to create an environment in which individuals feel comfortable enough to seek support, to discuss LGBTQA (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, queer or questioning, and asexual/ally) issues/current events and to meet others.
We work towards educational, social, and political goals for the LGBTQA population including their heterosexual allies here at Western Illinois University.
Many leadership opportunities are available through committees, liaisons, and senators, as well as seats on the UNITY executive board.
We hold events such as:.
• National Coming Out Day.
• National Day of Silence.
• World AIDS Day.
• Transgendered Day of Remembrance.
• Speakers Panels .
(in classroom discussions on GLBT terminology, statistics and issues) .

Due to how small the LGBTQA community is, people need a place to feel comfortable and UNITY tries to reach out to such individuals.
One does not have to identify as LGBTQ to attend.
We strongly encourage the support of our heterosexual allies.
We do not ask and/or disclose an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identification..
UNITY holds weekly meetings every Thursday at 6:30pm in the Sandburg Lounge located in the University Union basement level.
All are welcome to attend as these meetings are open to the public.
