The Westminster Church of God was dedicated in 1969 as the "West Statesville Church of God." The church was originally meeting in a frame structure on the property, which was later completed, and is now the church parsonage.
The new church building was constructed by members of the church with only limited professional help..

Whitaker was founder of the church and served as pastor for several years.
The church name was later changed to "Westminster Drive Church of God." Then while Phil Newton was pastor, the name was again changed, this time to "Westminster Church of God." .
