February 3, 2021 8:34 am KGMI City of Ferndale/KPFF FERNDALE, Wash. — The project to improve and connect Thornton Street in Ferndale via an elevated crossing has reached a new milestone. The City of Ferndale announced that the walls and fill for the Thornton Overpass project’s future bridge were built up to their full height of approximately 20 feet last week. The next phase will now allow time for the unstable soil beneath the heavy approaches to stabilize, a process that could last for up to 18 months. The new bridge is anticipated to become a principal route for the majority of Ferndale residents on the west side of the city.
