WHITEVILLE — Two men from Hope Mills were robbed and shot, and one of the men died, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office. On Nov. 29, just after 9 p.m., deputies responded to the 100 block of Sellers Town Road in Whiteville in reference to an unresponsive male on the ground, according to a news release. When they arrived they found George Cleveland Stump Sr., 73, in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound and Tristan Lavonne Stavee, 23, unresponsive on the ground, according to the release. Stump was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. Stavee died at the scene, the release said.
