2 Green residents oppose use of Nexus pipeline settlement funds

GREEN — Two residents spoke out this week against using $540,000 in Nexus pipeline settlement funds to build a new hiking and biking trail in Green.
Residents Tony Ziehler and Pat Carleski voiced opposition through the “Public Speaks” portion of Tuesday’s City Council meeting to using any remaining natural gas pipeline settlement funds to help build the Willadale Trail.
Their letters, which were read during council’s virtual meeting, were prompted by a Nov. 24 council discussion of Green's proposed $10,279,000 capital appropriations budget for 2021.
The Pipeline Settlement Advisory Committee had recommended that $1.4 million be divided, with $500,000 going toward fire equipment purchases and $540,000 to help fund the Willadale Trail, which is proposed to run along the south side of Boettler Park off Thursby Road.
