2 killed in separate weekend shootings in Phenix City Updated Feb 28, 2021; Two people were killed in separate weekend shootings in Phenix City. The first happened about 12:20 p.m. Saturday. Phenix City police responded to the Marathon gas station and arrived to find a wounded man in the passenger’s seat of a vehicle in the parking lot. The victim, 32-year-old Curtis Lee Upshaw, was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Capt. Darryl Williams said investigators were able to identify and then locate a suspect vehicle off Sandfort Road. That led them to arrest Markei Miles, 19, on a capital murder charge. He is being held in the Russell County Jail.
