Mackay Road Policing Unit Senior Sergeant Shane Edwards said the training would provide additional resources to perform high-volume operations with a focus on drug detection as well as standard RBTs. “We’ve identified over the past couple of years that there has been a significant increase in positive drug results in the drivers of vehicles involved in fatal crashes,” Sergeant Edwards said. Sergeant Edwards said the training was conducted over two days, with officers first learning the theory in a classroom setting before heading out on the road to put it to the test under the supervision of experienced trainers.
