There is undoubtedly one segment of our households that is delighted by the pandemic lockdowns – our pets. Dogs in particular must think they are in heaven with their owners home all day. Cats, on the other hand, generally don’t let you know one way or another if they’re happy you’re around, unless you happen to pass by the food dish and don’t refill it.
We have a 15-year-old cat who is almost completely deaf, and she has compensated by developing the most ear-splitting yowl. I’m not kidding. Sometimes I think the windows rattle! Recently she gave us a scare and used up a few of her lives, I’m sure. She jumped off the couch and instead of landing on her feet, landed on her chin. Despite a few days without eating, some bruised gums and a swollen cheek, she slept it off and has come through like a trooper. We knew she was back to normal when she could both yawn fully and empty her food dish, and the windows started rattling again.
