Six people were caught in an avalanche Sunday morning while hiking on Torreys Peak, according to the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said they received a report at around 9 a.m. from someone who saw six hikers on the mountain when the avalanche started and only two left visible when it ended. Those four missing hikers were swept up in the avalanche and rode it into a rock field, deputies said. They sustained minor injuries and are expected to be OK. Sheriff’s deputies, along with officials from Alpine Search and Rescue, Clear Creek EMS and Summit Search and Rescue, responded to look for the hikers using two Flight for Life helicopters.
