A rivalry renewed: 3 reasons Lincoln defeated Lanphier in early season contest

State Journal-Register
The Lincoln High School boys basketball team was supposed to host Lanphier for the Class 3A sectional championship last year.
The COVID-19 pandemic, instead, dashed its hopes to partake in a bygone Central State Eight Conference rivalry with more than just bragging rights on the line. The winner would've advanced to the Springfield Supersectional at the Bank of Springfield Center for a chance at a state berth.
The Railsplitters and Lions did find some consolation on Saturday at Lober-Nika Gymnasium, almost a year since that anticipated showdown on March 13 was canceled.
But Lincoln (3-0) cherished it more in the end, surging to a 56-49 nonconference victory over the host Lions (0-1).
