Abu Dhabi explores social innovation in waste management and environment protection

Abu Dhabi: A reported 13 million tonnes of plastic enters the oceans every year, with 9.8 million tonnes of solid waste found in Abu Dhabi emirate.
A panel discussion organised by the Authority of Social Contribution, Ma’an, and Abu Dhabi’s environment sector regulator, the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD), explored the importance of protecting the environment. The session was part of Ma’an’s ‘Join the Conversation’ series.
Panellists explored how to minimise waste and the use of single-use plastics, as well as how to promote sustainable ecotourism in the emirate. They also highlighted how a sustainable environment can help boost the economy and public health.
