THE grounds of an Isle of Wight church were the subject of seemingly mindless vandalism at the weekend. Visitors to St Peter's Church in Shorwell on Saturday evening noticed their Christmas tree had suffered damage, its lights were broken and other memorial lights had been ripped from the ground. Villagers came together the following morning in an attempt to repair the damage, providing new lights and tidying up other debris left at the scene. An eye-witness said: "There was evidence of drug taking at the scene and as well as the tree and lights, the seat in the village bus shelter was also destroyed."
