DR Lim Mah Hui is known for speaking his mind, having been one of the few city councillors who dared go against the Penang government. A former professor with a background in banking, he is also well-regarded for having no political ties and fought for public interests without fear or favour. His no-holds-barred book ‘Local Democracy Denied? A Personal Journey into Local Government in Malaysia’ lifts the lid on his time in public office. It includes a clash with former Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in 2016 over parking issues, which saw Dr Lim labelled a liar.
